VJ Feature: Eclectic Method
Eclectic Method comprises Jonny Wilson, Ian Edgar and Geoff Gamlen. Hailing from London, they united to form an AV collective in 2002, and have definitely helped push the boundaries of club/concert visuals ever since – most recently moving to the USA to pursue this mission.
Driving their high-octane mash-up style work firmly into the heart of the mainstream, Eclectic Method has worked with the likes of MTV, U2, Fatboy Slim and Public Enemy. And as edgy, audio-visual live (re)mix performers they have rocked clubs and events all around the world.
Working from behind a futuristic live set-up that wouldn’t look out of place onboard Starship Enterprise, Eclectic Method explores the furthest reaches of this brave new audiovisual world using Pioneer’s DVJ DVD decks and its all-new SVM-1000 four-channel AV mixer. These allow the team to (re)sample, (re)mix, (re)effect video and generally make fresh edits on the fly during an eye-boggling live jam. This method of live performance, which is based around the use of ‘traditional’ DJ tools that can now synchronise video (ie decks and mixers), means that every show is unique and a spectacle in itself, as the three interact to become one in the final video mix, as seen on-screen.
